50 meter free stroke, Hamza Labeid is a bit too eager to start!

Yahoo News: Mauritania's Hamza Labeid had to leave the swimming pool after he was disqualified for false start in the heats of the men's 50-metre freestyle swimming event in the FINA World Championships at the indoor stadium of the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai on July 29, 2011.

Heart kinda goes out to him, we have all been here before.

I'm surprised that he only gets a single false start before getting disqualified. Two or three, I understand, but one? That's strict!

It's the same in the Olympics too - it happened to our multiple Olympic champion Ian Thorpe in a 400m Olympic heat and he was disqualified, however the winner graciously gave up his spot for him.

Nice...now I'm ticked...fucking Olympic assholes.

Yeah it does seem harsh. In Olympic track and field don't you get one "free" false start before being disqualified?

As I remember it...one person jumps and then the entire field is docked. The next person even if it's not the same person is disqualified.

EDIT: To remedy this I think they should hold multiple races...not just heats but like a tournament of races. It would be a lot more exciting and it would put a premium on being consistent rather than getting lucky on a good start.
