This promotional trade advertisement from Ford demonstrates a rare extra that never really took off in 1957-How could you not be enthralled by this contraption in 1957?-The worlds first retractable hardtop offered was the 1922 Hudson coupe (manual). This one was Ford's most expensive car in 1957, a whopping $2942.
Mazda, BMW, Infinity, Lexus, Jaguar, all offer the hardtop retractable as an option today (all infinitely sexier)-This is the oldest and first. The 1957 Chick Magnet.
