Ramstein Airshow Tragedy - Full Report

On August 29th 1988 during a display of the italian air acrobatics team "Frecce Tricolori", three planes collided and crashed. One airplane crashed as a fireball into the nearby audience. Roughly 1000 people were injured, 70 (including the three pilots) died.

As a consequence of the disaster, public displays of aerial acrobatics where forbidden during the following three years in germany. Up to this day, acrobatics with jet planes are only allowed at the ILA (International Air- and Space Exhibition) in Berlin since 2000.
