Quick Science Sift #8:rapid vaporization of cryogenic liquid

When a coffeemaker-full of hot water meets a bucket of liquid nitrogen the rapid vaporization of the liquid creates quite an eruption. The gas occupies ~700 times the volume of the liquid. This is not an experiment I would recommend unless you REALLY know what you are doing. Liquid nitrogen has a low heat capacity so the hot water you pour in is going to blast right back out at nearly the same scalding hot temperature. In addition, you are vaporizing a LARGE amount of pure nitrogen here, asphyxiation risks in closed environments are real and do kill people!

This is darwin-esque, doesn't something here have that "begging for something to go really wrong" look? Like blasting a litre of liquid nitrogen on the front row person due to the out of control mushroom cloud? That said I loved the video.
