QI - Are you pleased to see me?

How can you tell if someone is truly pleased to see you?

Youtube: "Stephen Fry asks his guests how you can tell if someone is truly pleased to see you. They discuss the experiments made by Guillaume Duchenne which included electrocuting people's faces to produce a smile where only the mouth moves."

Just for shits 'n giggles, I tried some fake smiles in front of a mirror just now. If anything, it made me laugh like a looney at my own ineptness. I can't do it, I can't fake a smile without it turning into a genuine smile, because even if there's nothing to smile about, I can't suppress the autosuggestive effect of it. Faking a smile makes me smile.

Guess Monsieur Duchenne wouldn't have needed that third probe for me and my sphincter would have remained untouched.

Is it just me or is the fat guy painfully unfunny? Every time his in a clip, my enjoyment reduces.

He's just hit and miss. Sometimes comes out with some hilarious stuff, but does come out with some not so funny stuff too. Like all of us. I'm the same with alan davies (the curly haired one), i don't find him that funny but he does come out with some brilliant ones.

Deanosays...

You're right he's bloody awful. Jupitus is a smart, quick-witted guy but he just isn't very funny. He was on Radio 4's The News Quiz (he's a regular on all the BBC panel shows) and even with a script there's nothing there. I cringe whenever he's on. Without a BBC contract I have no idea who would hire him.
