Police Targeting The Press Covering George Floyd Protests

Police are attacking journalists covering George Floyd protests throughout the U.S., firing rubber bullets, tear gas, and arresting clearly identified members of the press.

In US news and current events today, protests have broken out across the country calling on justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and other Black people killed. And police appear to be attacking both protesters and reporters who are covering the George Floyd protests.

WCCO photojournalist Tom Aviles was shot with a rubber bullet, forced to the ground, and arrested before being freed hours later in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Police fired pepper balls at a crew with WAVE 3 News in Louisville, Kentucky. Linda Tirado, a freelance photographer, says she is permanently blinded after being shot in the eye with a projectile during the protests in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
