Paranoid Houston Cop is Paranoid

To be fair though, he had been hurt that day :( poor little copper

Wrong guy to have doing a job like that, where there's a stream of annoying shoppers.

But yeah, those kids could taken that cop to task if there was any justice in that area.

VoodooVsays...

sigh. It's a tragic comedy of errors. The cop is obviously disturbed and abusing his authority, but at the same time, why are those kids arguing with him, much less "debating" with him.

film the fucker trying to escalate the situation and get the heck out of there and report him. A rational person doesn't pull out his weapon like that on unarmed citizens when they're supposed to be serving and protecting. He pulled out that weapon to provoke them into doing something dumb.

people like that don't respond well to reason. He doesn't care what your rights are, you don't need to give him your id but he doesn't care. In his world, he's right and you're wrong, end of story. Like @Porksandwich said, this guy shouldn't even be a cop when he clearly has a temper issue.

film him and get the hell out of there. You don't provoke an armed person who has issues like he does.

Phreezdrydsays...

Considering everybody has a camera phone of some kind these days, you don't need agitated cops responding angrily every time someone uses one near them. And I'm totally sick of hearing the resisting arrest line every time someone flinches or acts like they'd prefer not to be beaten or tazed.

Isn't there a rule against cops being on duty after being hurt, or involved in something that might leave them pissed off afterwards?

TheFreaksays...

What I don't understand is why other cops allow this sort of thing from their peers. Why turn a blind eye or even blindly defend the actions of weak, disgusting individuals like this? Don't they see how this guys actions turn the public against them and put them in danger? If this guy was in my department I'd find a couple of like minded individuals and we'd send him a clear message.

Fucking cops. Part-timing as a security guard at Wal-Mart with his police uni on. Is that legal?

Anyhoo, the only state where it's illegal to video a cop, even cops in public with no expectation of privacy, is Illinois. All other states, as far as I know, even those with laws (wiretapping laws) requiring both parties (the recorder and the recorded) to be aware of said recording, recognize that police in public have no expectation of privacy and may be recorded, as long as you aren't breaking any laws (like trespassing) to do so.

Cops lie. It's just a fact. They rely on the public's ignorance. Don't be ignorant. Know your rights. This shit won't end until cops are afraid to challenge informed citizens like this. Oversight, so far, is effectively non-existant. I think the reality of police behavior in this country is untenable in today's age of camera phones and instant media. Something has got to give. Keep recording these assholes.

True. But I dont know if people can handle so much positivity. It might burst everyone's cop hating bubble to know there are plenty of GOOD people who are police officers. And of course, there are bad eggs too.

Im not defending any of the people in this video or saying who I think is right or wrong, but I cant imagine many reasons at all why I would want to stand in front of a Walmart and film something. I wouldnt even put myself in this situation. But then again Im rational and have better things to do.

They also rely on our fear of their power and of their ignorance. These boys knew their rights, and the cop pretended that their rights were otherwise, and drew a weapon. In any argument, if one person has a drawn weapon, power of arrest, and a whole police department who will stand by them, that person is right. A cop can fuck up your life no matter what your rights are. It's only if you have witnesses, AND the cops don't "correct" them (like who was really calling for help), or choose to exclude these witnesses from their investigation altogether.>> ^Fletch:

YOU can't think of a reason for their video, so YOU must be rational. YOU have better things to do, so YOU must be rational. You don't want to say who you think is right or wrong, but those irrational boys don't look to be up to any good that YOU can see, do they? I guess some people just naturally defer to authority, even for no rational reason.

I can think of at least one thing I'd be video-ing if I was in front of this particular Wal-Mart. I'd be recording some asshole, irrational cop being a total prick to a couple of completely rational young men who weren't doing a goddamn thing wrong.

Normally I'd be more inclined to defend the Cop...after all its not an easy or especially well payed job and they are still human but in this instance...yeah its pretty unforgivable. I couldn't quite believe it when he pulled out his weapon like that. Unreal.

I still wanna know why they were filming in a WalMart parking lot though. They were about to explain when the Cop so rudely interupted :3

He looks like either a security guard or an off-duty precinct constable. If the case is the latter then most of these ya-hoos are douchebags. HPD, DPS, haven't got anything on the level of redneck of the constables in Harris county.

Don't you know? Police recruits are screened to weed-out thoughtful, sensible citizens. They want petty thugs and pricks with nominal IQ's. Adrenaline junkies with a rap-sheet of issues whose profiles fit the MO of "enforcement/harassment" which has replaced a saner model of "serve and protect." The latter credo having been replaced by the former over the last 40 years, WHILE EVERYONE HAS BEEN FAST ASLEEP!
