theo47says...Not downvoting it, but I just can't get jazzed about multi-million dollar military hardware. People are poor, our schools suck, etc. etc.
Sorry, no offense.
brnzsays...Just for the 'holy sh!t' factor - you get my vote.
(And.. I agree with theo - but this is a necessary evil to keep those freedoms we enjoy)
UmberGryphonsays...I was just heading over to submit this to VideoSift after I saw it on Reddit, but you beat me to it!
deathcowsays...never underestimate the lift of the body, this guy must be really in touch with his aircraft

That's pretty amazing. Agreed DC, the wide body must provide the lift.
Kruposays...I heard about this; wicked.
Ragarnoksays..."You don't need wings" gotta love those comments
bnsasays...Video is gone.
Plantsays...Theo...Hardware like that kept you out of Hitler Youth High School, big boy...Catch a freakin' grip before I come over there and smack you!! As for the F-15, it is true that the wide fuselage helped, but the differential horizontal stabilizers really brought her home. I flew the F-15A from 1986-1992. Great jet...hit 5 seagulls at 500 knots, she brought me home no-sweat! (The whole plane smelled like fish, though.)
deathcowsays...differential... meaning one is applying a lot of upwards lift on the missing wing side and a lot of downwards force on the other side?
Plantsays...Yeah, Deathcow. In addition to being a conventional "elevator", you can use them like ailerons. In training, the instructor grabs the lower control stick, in effect, jamming it, and you fly home using the transducer on the top of the stick--which only operates the [diff]stab. Very cool system...you can take lots of battle damage, loose your traditional flight controls and [maybe] make it back. Cheers!
pho3n1xsays...updated the embed code to one that still works
DCCsays...are you talking about flying while just adjusting your trim? and they are not elevators... they are called horizantal stabilators, since they act as the stabilizers and elevators
Devlinsays...My father helped design the F-15, and has multiple records of Israeli F-15's losing a wing and making home, including one from the Osirik reactor bombing. While it's cool and everything, I only have one question: WHY IS IT ONLY THE ISRAELI AIRFORCE THAT LOSES THE WINGS FROM F-15S????? Otherwise, I'm not suprised, and glad the pilot and RIO are okay.
