Build it or there could be "serious consequences".

I think sifters are doing themselves a disservice by continuously posting RT pieces. RT is so clearly anti-american that one can't take them seriously, even if you're very aware of the lobbying corruption in Washington.

I know. I too only want to hear a limited pro-US perspective and close my eyes and ears to all other opinions that make me uncomfortable. I'd rather live in an information-free protected zone. That way I can be as far away all sources of differing opinion so that I can guarantee my ability to not make informed decisions. Give me short uninformative sound bytes of a single perspective, and I'll be a perfect citizen. I also prefer to vote emotionally, rather than from a well informed perspective.

I don't see this message as anti-American at all. The slant is against corporations, not America. Wouldn't an RT moratorium be a violation of the 1st amendment?

I'm not advocating censorship or anything of the sort. Just saying that if you want an alternative news agency, RT isn't the best source out there due to their reactionary style.

I'm all about alternate news sources, but Russia Today always goes to the far extreme, which is often transparently propagandistic in its nature, much like the hyperbole on this one.

There was no 'threat', just the usual pro-business propaganda that is spewed out by, well, business men. This is hardly blackmailing or extortion on the White House.

Just about anyone can see that, too, as other sifters have quickly pointed out. Does it do you any favors to post news sources that are so quickly analyzed and debunked?

Holy cow this guy is annoying. Ridiculous strawmen, stupid vocal affectations, equivocation, eye-rolling hyperbole, some stuff that's so stupid it has to be at least disingenuous, and not even a vague pretense of balance.

To be clear: I think the pipeline will probably end up on a different route, and for valid reasons. And there's clearly downsides. But this decision doesn't exist in a vacuum. It's not like moving oil other ways is safe either, and it's not like building out production facilities somewhere closer to Alberta is environmentally neutral. There's a lot of factors to be balanced, and building this pipeline is, at very least, not crazy.

Yeah, it's big, but mostly it's special because it came at the wrong time; it's just the right time to get rolled up in the "we hate corporations"/"corporations are burning the planet" zeitgeist so it's getting a level of attention that would make much simpler decisions hard to sell.

Luckily for the people building this, people have short attention spans and this will (I think) get lost in the next Republican talking points battle.

What's happened to our educational institutions?

Idiots like you aren't allowed in them.

Seriously lets look at the facts about the smartest mother fuckers on this planet. They know global warming is occurring.

Anyone who's smarter than Stephen Hawking please stand up and we'll listen to you. Otherwise, nah shut the fuck up.

ToastyBuffoonsays...

I'm no expert when it comes to a global warming debate, but I've been on this Earth for well over 40 years and I'll be damned if I can tell you the last winter in the Detroit area I've been through where I have not once had to shovel snow up to this point in the season. I'll give you a hint: N-E-V-E-R. Something's going on, and it ain't no "tide goes in, tide goes out" bullshit.

They're mad. They're very upset that Obama isn't doing what he said he was gonna do. They're fucking morons believing in fairytales.

Yeah they're crazy for wanting to stop the destruction of the biosphere, end suicidal trillion dollar opportunistic oil heists around the world, get rid of nukes before one ends up in NYC, control the bullying of 6th generation intellectually mediocre inheritees wielding billions, stop rich right wing politicians sending the poor off to die in foreign fields in return for backhanders from Halliburton, Blackwater and the oil companies, stop 'losing' billions of dollars in cash on aeroplanes bound for Baghdad, try and resuscitate America's tattered reputation as a country of democracy, freedom and law, deal with Afghanistan, Pakistan and Saudi because THATS WHERE THE TERRORISTS LIVE NOT IRAQ, stop burning thousands of children to death in their cots in self defeating attempts to dominate huge populations of increasing angry bereaved paupers, and stop America from ending up as the poor beggar in a nuclear standoff with china in 20 years that they'll have to back down from cos china could take everything the US has and walk away with 300m people breathing -and the US knows it- and the west now talking about 'freedom' and respect for individuals and other nations will just make the Chinese commie party laugh even harder (and milks been coming out of their nose since 2002).

Stop America tearing itself to pieces and handing the next 2 centuries to 1.5 billion Chinese who have EVEN LESS interest and empathy for the 'Rest Of World' than Americans?

Maybe you're right Yogi.

Why is the guy working for a Russian propaganda outlet talking about himself as if he is average joe American who is being down trodden by the man?

He's no worse than many US 'news' services and a damn sight better that the australian disinformation network (fox). It's just not couched in all the ritual bullshit you're used to. Extract the useful facts and ignore demagoguery here, and having learned that trick you can apply it to the media in general - you'll find they are all selective and at least subconsciously biased.

The ritual bullshit I'm used to is a far sight better than this. Of course, I don't follow the American networks too closely and find myself reading Al Jazeera more often than anything else.

This isn't any better than what you see on FOX, it's as bad or worse and hardly worth the time let alone an upvote.
