I would have assumed several of these items were CG, mostly because their animation had the stilted look of poorly-done/early CG films. I think the Engineer head wouldn't have looked better as CG with expressions captured from a real actor.

I've always had that uncanny valley feeling watching Johnny Depp. This makes a lot of sense.

That severed head in the beginning gave me the strongest attack of uncanny valley I've ever had.

It makes you wonder if it might not have been less expensive to replace animatronic seal, chipmunk, and swimming girl with the real thing. I can only guess hes very good at negotiating contracts. Still, incredibly impressive.
