Nicholas Meyer: “Star Trek and the Science of Optimism”

"Star Trek and the Science of Optimism, centers on the origins of fascination for and devotion to the Star Trek franchise, as experienced from an autobiographical perspective. What is it about this television show that has proved so durable - not to say indestructible? Over half a century after its unpromising beginnings, how and why has it expanded and captured the imaginations and hearts of so many adherents, many of whom have gone onto distinguished careers in space exploration, working at JPL, Nasa, SpaceX, Blue Origin?

Nicholas Meyer is a film writer and director. He has been nominated for one Oscar (screenplay for the Seven-Per-Cent Solution), 3 Emmy Awards, and 4 Hugos.
