Newark Cop: "I Can Do Whatever the Hell I Want"

This Newark, New Jersey police officer provides us a glimpse into the culture that seems to be pervading police departments across the United States. While there are no doubt great officers out there - those who understand what the Constitution stands for and the importance of ensuring that the Rule of Law is protected - it is the bad apples, who act not as servants of the people, but rather, agents of tyranny, that have lead the majority of Americans to distrust law enforcement in general.

police state as a tag? really?
I thought we already went through this. A couple of shitty cops, a police state, does not make.
Good video, bad tag

Go to search field at top of page. Enter "police abuse." 3 pages of results.

What's your point? "police abuse" WOULD be an appropriate tag, but not police state. Two completely different things.

You can't cry police state when you've got a councilwoman (ie: The State) decrying the whole incident and insisting on an investigation. In a police state, these things would not occur

I have to agree. What we label things matters. Not just on the sift, but in life. If this was evidence of a police state, then the council members would be backing the officer's abuse of his position. That is not the case here.

CBS? Police messed with the wrong camera man - they're going to get worked. Huge media outlets LOVE this kind of thing - their intrepid journalists doing everything to get the story, pushing back against authoritarian power. Getting choked and handcuffed: prime-time gold. City/PD will fold quick and burn dude like paper.

Hopefully the fallout will result in policies that protect the non-huge-media camera users.
