Necessities of life (Ce qu'il faut pour vivre) is a film that takes place in 1952 and follows an Inuit Hunter from Baffin Island who is diagnosed with Tuberculosis and is shipped down to a sanatorium in Quebec City to recuperate. Far removed from his loved ones and not able to speak French in a world completely alien to him, he becomes despondent and loses his will to live until a young Inuit orphan is transferred to his sanatorium. The young orphan speaks both Inuktitut and French and is more familiar with life in the south and the two develop a close friendship.

Watched this just the other day! Neat to see it posted, now.. It was a very beautiful, sad film that would have seemed a bit slow paced, if it wasn't for Natar Ungalaaq's thoroughly compelling performance. I wouldn't hesitate to call it the finest Canadian film I've ever seen! *quality
