NMA: Netflix fans revolt over price hike.

"Netflix users are up in arms! They're furious over the movie rental company's decision to up its rates.

Under the old plan, users could receive one DVD by mail and stream an unlimited amount of movies for $9.99 per month.

Now DVD and streaming services are sold separately at a combined charge of around $16, a 60% increase.

Unwilling to pay more for the same service, Netflix users are threatening to cancel their subscriptions and seek alternatives.

But is $16 for unlimited movies really that bad? It sure beats the cost of taking the family to the theater."

Yeah Im one of the ones that is pissed about this and mainly because its just not worth the extra money. I already think the streaming and the dvd rental is a crappy service to begin with now they want more cash for it does not seem worth it to me anymore. Even if I split the services up in my situation does not seem worth it to keep either so I'll likely cancel my entire subscription.

I'm on the other side of the issue. I like the streaming service, that I can use it from any of my PCs and also my PS3s. I was rarely using the DVD service anyway, so I dropped that down to 1 DVD/month (instead of 3) and now I'm saving money.

I'm just not that bothered by it all.

8 dollars for unlimited streaming on several devices is pretty cheap, I dont know how people can find outrage in that.

Although they should have grandfathered existing customers, gives them incentive not to cancel their accounts as well.

Meh, if I have to pay more now then what I currently do, then i'm definitely cancelling.

Someone will have to explain to me if this affects Canada at all, but as Netflix Canada is now, they should probably be considering themselves lucky that anybody subscribes.

No major movies, No real decent T.v. shows, and I get a better deal with my local cable (Rogers on Demand is effectively the same thing, just with Game of Thrones, and it's included in my cable bill.)

So, meh. If there's a price hike for those of us that just stream then I'm out.

With Netflix's price increase, there is definitely an increase with cancellation of subscriptions of their customers and if this price increases will continue, majority of their customers might cancel their subscriptions with Netflix and would definitely subscribe to other companies that offers the same services. With a 60 percent rate increase on the way at Netflix, it is believed that the leisure company will forfeit over two million customers. With the gaping sinkhole opened, there's a chance that businesses like Wal-Mart will jump in to fill the break. The giant company announced Tues that it is adding its recently acquired high-definition loading video service VUDU with WalMart.com. I found this here: Wal-Mart introduces streaming HD content via VUDU. They must have considered their consumers' views before they made this outrageous decision.
