My Hero Craig Ferguson Screws with the CBS Censor

watch to the very end, he sticks it to the censor again, at about 8:45 if you don't enjoy the ride. I am fairly sure that the censor is sitting RIGHT THERE, he keeps making eye contact with her. It is either the censor or his director he is looking at. Aired 1/25/11

Ah Persephone, do you watch Craig Ferguson on a regular basis? He is one of the most amazing things on TV -- his monologues aren't written, there is no rehearsal, and it drives the censors (and CBS) crazy because they never know what he is going to do.

What is the most amazing thing about him is that he manages to live in the moment and tells the "truth". To watch him work feels dangerous, almost. He is trying to "deconstruct" the talk show format, and is constantly fighting with CBS.

I have a pretty good b.s. detector. I believe this is essentially true.

Craig Ferguson is my hero. Every night.

This sounds like a beat up for dramatic effect. I doubt the censor really had a problem with a photo of haggis.

Here's an example of the idiocy of the network censors....

Craig has a robot skeleton sidekick, which can move but has very limited range of motion. And it is pretty jerky movement. Geoff has an arm movement that bears a resemblance to what Craig calls "self massage." The censor allows it. When Craig imitated the movement of Geoff, early on, he was told by the censor that he couldn't.

Geoff has no skin or the necessary equipment (it is stuck in customs, is the running joke), so he can do it. Craig has skin, so he can't.

So I guess the haggis falls into the "has skin" category. Jeesh.

I tape his show and watch it religiously, can you tell?

I. Love. This. Man.

^yeah sorry about that. I still find it hard to believe that a censor would have a problem showing the national dish of Scotland on TV.
