Kruposays..."Give this man the 20 million dollars."
Nice payoff.
joedirtsays...I know this was previously on here with saves PBS or some such title. Maybe the video got pulled.
viewer_999says...Such a man, who fought such an uphill battle in a world so full of hostility. He's so gentle that you almost have to pity him, or fear for him. But then you realize he's the one who did it right.
quantumushroomsays...It would be nice if the liberals who run American public television as their own taxpayer-funded pulpit for conservative-bashing (denying it all the way, of course) took a lesson or ten from Mr. Rogers.
daphnesays...What a great man. He was so kind...I wish we had more people like him in this world.
I'll refrain from rebuking the above mistatement of PBS being a platform for "conservative bashing" out of respect for Mr. Rogers.
couplandsays...Shamelessly stolen from wikipedia:
During the 1998 Daytime Emmys, a Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Rogers. The following is an excerpt from Esquire Magazine's coverage of the gala, written by Tom Junod:
"...Mister Rogers went onstage to accept the award -- and there, in front of all the soap opera stars and talk show sinceratrons, in front of all the jutting man-tanned jaws and jutting saltwater bosoms, he made his small bow and said into the microphone, 'All of us have special ones who have loved us into being. Would you just take, along with me, ten seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are. Ten seconds of silence.'
And then he lifted his wrist, looked at the audience, looked at his watch, and said, 'I'll watch the time.' There was, at first, a small whoop from the crowd, a giddy, strangled hiccup of laughter, as people realized that he wasn't kidding, that Mister Rogers was not some convenient eunuch, but rather a man, an authority figure who actually expected them to do what he asked. And so they did. One second, two seconds, three seconds -- and now the jaws clenched, and the bosoms heaved, and the mascara ran, and the tears fell upon the beglittered gathering like rain leaking down a crystal chandelier. And Mister Rogers finally looked up from his watch and said softly, 'May God be with you.' to all his vanquished children."
Riftersays...I work at a local PBS station. The local stations do a lot of good. Ours is on the fore front of technological advancement. Local TV stations also have some feeds from us, especially for political activities. I am a annoyed at the name of this file. I am conservative, and I agree, there are some programs that the left use to push their agenda, but there is a lot.. no a TON of good programming that comes from PBS. Local shows, local interest, and children's programming are at the top of that list. For every left-wing show, there are dozens of childrens programs put up, that help early child hood development.

cardboardhutsays...Wow! I got goosebumps as well listening to his speech.
It was really nice as well to discover just how little of his Mister Rogers persona was an act.
swampgirlsays...I was about to post this. This brings me to tears everytime I've see this....but Mister Rogers does that to anyone w/ half a heart...he's so wonderful.
There was a documentary on him the other day on Biography and I haven't been able to stop thinking about him. *promote
