MarineGunrockThat is a terrible interface. Using your fingers facing you is not natural, and will only hinder the ability of someone to use the device. Especially the keyboard. Upvote so people can avoid this when they try to sell it.
Artsays...This is so terrible.
stumblingjonthat looks awful... so cumbersome
dr20says...How are you supposed to read what's on the screen when you've got these "out of body" black smudges crawling around? Worse than the "occlusion" problem I think.
dagComment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
I don't know, I pretended I had one, using a paperback book just now - it feels natural to move things from the back I think.
I agree that the fingers will hinder visibility, but presumably you retract them to the edges when not actively doing something.
K0MMIEiPhone killer... in 10 years.
MINKmicrosoft solving yet another problem that nobody actually has.
remember this device will probably require you to register your palmprint with Redmond, and will then say "unauthorised user" when you pick it up.
the problem with this (apart from the obvious one about your fingers blocking the text ANYWAY...) is the latency.. the time between your movement and the reaction of the image on screen. if it's more than zero latency then i'd say "no thanks". Although remember how people said the mouse would never catch on...
JAPRupvote for "lol lame idea"
rustybrookssays...So there's a big ass camera on the back, pointing at your fingers, right? hahahahahahaha.
jmzerosays...Obviously this implementation isn't exactly ready for the public - but I think the idea is sound. How do you maximize the size of a screen (which people want, especially for games/movies) while still giving a fast typing surface (which a device needs if it is to act as a computer replacement)? Those are problems everyone in the space is trying to solve - even if this exact idea isn't used I'm sure it'll inspire some new design concepts.
FadeI think this is a really strong idea. The screen is no more blocked by the fingers at the back than it is by touching an ordinary screen. In fact it's way better as they are transparent so you can see through them. Try seeing though your hand as you type on a touch screen. Plus being able to use both hands while holding the device is a boon for typing. Think blackberry, just with all your fingers rather than just your thumbs.
dgandhiThis might work in 3-5 years, by which time we may have usable natural speech recognition, which will throw most of the user input paradigm of this thing out the window.
Farhad2000Oh god, people talking into blinking bluetooth headsets looks stupid enough...
