Metallica Plays Tull - Cross-eyed Mary

1988: Jethro Tull over Metallica for the Grammy
A nation of Heshers waited anxiously for the announcement of the very first Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. To no avail. The seasoned veterans of Jethro Tull stole the night in a Grammy Award moment that Metallica's fans never forgot. Everyone was reminded that night that the flute is a heavy, metal instrument.

ZOMG! I have to tell you, that makes it even funnier. Someone ought to make a mockumentary: Metallica Plays Tull: An Evening of Tribute to the First Hard Rock Grammy Award Winners!

Just remember the flute really is a heavy, metal instrument.

Well, yea . . . that's why it's funny. Metallica loses to Tull in the Grammy's in 1989. Someone decides to make a video of Metallica doing a cover of a Tull song. Only problem is, Metallica hasn't ever covered a Tull song (and probably never would - a pride thing). So, you get an Iron Maiden cover of a Tull song, dub it into a Metallica concert and make it look like Metallica are honoring Tull.

Now, the real problem is this: Iron Maiden covered the Tull song better than Metallica ever could and it gives the whole illusion away.

So, it was funnier than when I first posted it.

And it was funnier when I didn't have to explain it.

always thought Dickenson was a woosie....no one better than the very first vocalist, Paul Di'Anno.....Dickenson always seemed the poser, screetchy, and those ominous satanic armageddon lyrics just pissed me off.....the soul left that band when Di'Anno split.....Killers-Best Maiden album.
