Hmm, I wonder if there's no simple explanation for this trick, but rather the magician has worked out a rather clever rendering system which can print the name of any card based on how he rearranges and flips the initial, seemingly (but not really) unprinted, deck.

Yup, I'd go with that, the Ns and E of nine, and the O & F, seemed to be formed by two cards each.

My guess:

So when he spreads the cards out, it looks like "NINE OF DIAMONDS" is spread out among a large number of cards, but maybe he is only using a small number (about 1 card per letter).

If he were to have a letter for every combination of words he'd need like 81 cards, which he may have.

I mean that he has the following on one side in that deck:

ONE
TWO
THREE
...
OF
...
CLUBS
SPADES
...

And then in his shuffling/flipping he grabs the three words he needs. He could probably get the number of cards down a lot if he used the cards on both the left and right edges, and possibly both sides. Also he probably uses those 3 "printed" cards to help count down how many cards he needs to take for each word.

The man is a card master. 100% slight of hand.
Spread different groups left or right, or keep them "face" down.
The same 6 cards that say "Nine" spread right to left, say "Ten" or "Eight" if spread left to right instead.
The cards that spell "Diamonds" might spell "ClubsSpades".
He pulls out the groups that spell "Nine" and "Diamonds" right at the beginning. "Of" is there too, probably the top 4 cards.
He flips over a completely blank card every now and then as a fake out.
The groups he doesn't want are face down and make whitespace.
The places he pulls out "Your" "Card" "Is the" just happens to be where he will place "Nine" "of" "Diamonds" back into the deck, flipped, and arranged for spreading.

You would probably get a kick out of this guy. A master at slight of hand imo. Lennart Green.

I'd go with sleight of hand. He literally memorized and shuffled the deck into place. That would be a herculean feat of human agility and acuity.

Not at all, he NEVER shuffles the deck until the cards he wants are out.

You're right. I'm leaning towards a pre-fab deck that is grouped into three sections. The movement and the cards displacement are key though (perhaps mechanism if no one looks at the cards ever), I would think.
