I dunno. I believe they had budget issues during filming, some big action scenes had to be cut and things reworked. I don't think it had the smoothest filming schedule anyway...

... and this trailer is really rather bland I thought. Nothing enticing.

Boy, that looks cool. I like the sideways steam engine powerslide effects. I will not be the one to apologize to the native American nations for what Johnny Depp is likely to do here though. I think he should do that himself.

I have a soft spot for Gore Verbinski. I wasn't a huge fan of Pirates 2 or 3, but they suddenly looked a whole lot better after the abysmal part 4. At least those movies had a certain amount of style, and were obviously the product of a filmmaker with a clear voice, even if they weren't necessarily that successful. Part 4 felt like it was directed by a robot who had been programmed with the knowledge of the first three.

I'm looking forward to it, as Gore has demonstrated he has a knack for just all out fun films. Also, he seems intent on taking over Tim Burton's crown for working with Johnny Depp more than anyone else.

Depp certainly seems to inspire some loyalty in his directors, that's for sure.

To me it's a bit of a danger signal when the actor that plays the obvious "prime" character that should be the focus because the movie is named after him gets second billing in the credits because the actor that plays his sidekick has more name recognition. Makes me wonder if it has a crap story and the only reason it was made was to get people in to see that sidekick actor.

Perhaps they should have named this film "Tonto". That could actually open it up to some potentially very interesting storylines.
