Larry Norman - Why Should The Devil Have All the Good Music?

Enjoy laughing at modern day Christian Rockers? Wish they'd all go away? Shocked when you see an occasional good song come out of the religion-fueled music scene? By and large, you have this man to thank (or curse) for it all.

Larry Norman started writing music in the 50s to try to show his friends that Elvis wasn't really doing anything besides performing "black" church music (since he himself had grown up with some of the same music). MANY Christian artists (and even some non-Christian artists) cite Larry Norman as one of their biggest influences, despite the fact that his more left-leaning views made him very unpopular with the Christians of his era.

From the Wikipedia article on him, he himself complained that Christian music generally meant "sloppy thinking, dishonest metaphors, and bad poetry" and [he] stated that "I've never been able to get over the shock of how bad the lyrics are."

So, love it or hate it, say hello to the father of "Contemporary Christian Music."
