La Playa (The Beach) by La Oreja de Van Gogh

"La Playa" by La Oreja de Van Gogh (Van Gogh's Ear), from their 2000 release "El Viaje de Copperpot". They were Goonies fans, apparently.

They were the most successful pop group from Spain for a few years. This is a beautiful song which always touched me as it's about someone who had their first love on a beach and they are now visiting the site 50 years later, trying to capture the feeling of nostalgia in a song.

But I think they could have done a much better job with the video. They aimed for a literal interpretation of the song which comes across as pretty lame. During the line "si pudiera volver a nacer" (If I could be born again) at 2:37 they animate a person regressing back to a toddler, that always struck me as dumb. And the old guy at the end shutting off the TV is ridiculous.

But the song itself is brilliant and worth sifting.
