Mt. Kilauea, one of the five volcanoes that form the big island of Hawaii, spewed forth with a spectacular eruption yesterday that was captured by a US Geological Survey video camera.
The world's most active volcano, Kilauea has had a particularly eventful year. Instead of the gurgling lava flows that have typified the volcano's behavior, Kilauea has been exploding. That hasn't been seen regularly since way back in 1924.
Scientists aren't sure what's going on, but you can follow their observational process in amazing detail by sorting through the data, video, and analysis at the USGS Kilauea update page.
