G-barsays...wow... that was uncomfortable... eek!
burdturglersays...Who the hell is Joaquin Phoenix?
swampgirlsays...He should have said, "Well! Congratulations on your retirement.... Next?"
Stupid reporter....don't you know a buzzed out flake when you see one?
shuacsays...Weirder than anything else is that hair doesn't seem to grow on a...well, never mind.
cybrbeastsays...Bizarre. Is he serious? Apparently he also said this to a reporter once:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag/2008/10/joaquin-phoenix.html
"Do I have a large frog in my hair?"
Reporter: No, no.
Phoenix: "Something's crawling out of my scalp."
Reporter: No, you look great.
Phoenix: "No, but I feel it. I'm not worried about the looks. I'm worried about the sensation of my brain being eaten. ... What did you ask me?"
kronosposeidonsays...I thought it was pretty good.
burdturglersays...Butters?
therealblankmansays...Choggie?
blankfistsays...This has to be fake. This seemed very staged.
10891says...My name is Joaquin too and the first thing I'm going to do is pick up his new CD
Lodurrsays...This vexes me. I'm terribly vexed.
chilaxesays...What an utterly professional and disciplined young man! Not doped out of his mind at all!

vairetubesays...In his Pre-Heath phase.

It seems we forget that others are not trained in the craft of theater as we are my friend. TOTALLY staged, and just bad acting in general, some people should not do improv.
Januarisays...Rigged?... naaaaa... why would someone want to drum up the very slightest bit of interest in their new album... that i'm sure we were ALL going to ask Santa for anyway...
Actors acting?... Whaaaa?
honkeytonk73says...more drugs?
ElJardinerosays...His brother died of an overdose, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't think of "drumming up" interest in his album by faking this.
I just hope the man gets well. He's a fine actor.
Januarisays...Yes... he is clearly all about the good judgment...
I was really just refering to his saying he was retiring from acting... not the assumed drug use... and that I agree... it seemed very staged...
MINKsays...i didn't think that was fake, unless you count the fact that the entire industry and everybody in it is fake.
Sarzysays...Well, according to Phoenix's publicist, it's true:
NEW YORK - Joaquin Phoenix is quitting movies to focus on music.
Phoenix's publicist has confirmed his earlier comments to TV's "Extra" that the upcoming "Two Lovers" will be his last performance on film.
Phoenix first talked about his decision to "Extra" this week while attending a fundraiser in San Francisco.
He abruptly ended the interview after the reporter asked if he was joking.
The 34-year-old star received Oscar nominations for his roles in "Gladiator" and "Walk the Line," for which he learned to play guitar to portray country legend Johnny Cash.
Phoenix co-stars with Gwyneth Paltrow in the romantic drama "Two Lovers," slated for release Feb. 13.
Publicist Susan Patricola says it's "not strange" that Phoenix wants "Two Lovers" to be his last film.
"Joaquin has been directing music videos and been involved in music for the last number of years," she said.
youdiejoesays...yawn
8266says...Wow who cares ? He obviously stoned.
blackjackshellacsays...Looks like he's getting a little chunky around the middle, Joaquin. Casey is the better actor of late IMO, but in this case I think Joaquin might have one upped him.
HollywoodBobsays...So Leaf Phoenix is retiring, big friggin' deal. He was a mediocre actor, who was only lucky enough to be in movies where his brand of over acting was muted by the rest of the cast.
The best thing would have been for the reporter to respond "Go shave ya hippy."
Ohh look at me I'm Joaquin Phoenix, I'm so cool I have to where sunglasses on the red carpet at night, because the flashes hurt my eyes, but no one can recognize me anyway cause I've gone and got all fat and hairy.
When his album sucks, and he comes back to movies to fuel his outrageous spending (remember he's been an actor since he was like 12), he'll be back. Now if only Hollywood would tell him "Oh we heard you quit, maybe next time." and then never hire him for anything, and when he's making E-surance commercials, and working at the Subway on Sunset he'll have proven to other up and comers that being a douche doesn't work out.

"...for the last number of years.."
For some reason that made me giggle.
I think she probably left out a bit "...for the last, er... number, of years..."
Anyways, it's a shame what happened to his brother, who was genuinely very talented, and I hope River comes to him in a dream and slaps him around a bit.
quantumushroomsays..."This'll be my last performance."
"There are 1000s waiting tables eager to take your place. Bye-bye!!"
highdileehosays...>> ^HollywoodBob:
calm down, he isn't raping your daughter, he's growing a beard and not concerning himself with hollywoods standards. The fact that it bothers you makes me a little sick to my stomach...read a book, it will occupy wour mind with much more useful and insightful things.
A sand county almanac By Aldo Leopold is a classic, and its ony about 300 pages.
