It's a trap!!! Brilliant car ad.

The viral channel seems to be really messy. It's being used for normal ads (like this), internet fads (dramatic rat-thing) and viral ads, which I think it should be exclusively for. Clips that appear to be made by enthusiasts (or haters) of a product but which were actually made for a business in the market, such as Sony's awful fake PSP fan site promoting their product (PC World Article), or the US Republican Party and Exxon video mocking "An Inconvenient Truth" in a clip supposedly made by some random college student or something.

I don't mind an ad channel, but it needs to be labelled correctly.

I've been attacked before for talking about the Viral tag, but apparently I don't learn. It's been misunderstood and misused enough that I think it might be best to just eliminate. Perhaps an ordinary Marketing tag would be better?

Personally, I think the only thing that defines viral marketing is that it spreads on the internet, not by marketers, but by users who think it's clever. It doesn't need to be amateurish, regardless of the budget they have it's just people trying to see you something.
