Israel: The Silent Majority

Opinion polls consistently suggest that 60 per cent of Israelis are in favour of a return to the 1967 borders and an end to the occupation. These people form a "silent majority".

When you make something compulsory, it tends to generate resentment against both the politicians and the institutions. Look at U.S. citizen reaction following the institution of a draft during Vietnam, for example.

They're like the "silent majority" of U.S. citizens who want to withdraw from Iraq (66% last time I checked) but with even worse political representation. And honestly, withdrawal to pre-1967 borders and the splitting/internationalizing of Jerusalem are the only way there will ever be peace. Most intelligent and rational people understand that, be they Palestinian, Israeli, or otherwise.
