Don't know, that's why I put it in the form of a question. Maybe the helmet is what forced the branch into his cheek. Maybe if he didn't have a helmet on the branch would've just grazed his cheek instead of having nowhere else to go but in his mouth. Maybe not. Just exploring possibilities, no reason to get your panties in a bunch...
