This is some scary shit.

We don't swim in the ocean here in Cairns, where this was filmed, until stinger season is officially over. That gives us a gap of about 3-4 months in winter to swim, sadly.

Oh, and don't swim in the creeks or rivers either, unless you want to be a croc's dinner.

As an aside, I know Jamie. I had to buy a tin of Milo for the cafe especially for him!

Eeeegh.. And all I have to worry about at my local watering hole is the hundreds of leeches that hang around the reeds!

When I was kayaking and snorkeling off the coast of Maui, everyone was feeling pin pricks every 30 seconds or so. They were supposed to just be harmless baby jellyfish all over the place. Every time I'd feel one, I'd immediately look over where I felt it, and saw nothing. Scary that there's Irukandji in Hawaii.

The video didn't mention it, but supposedly going through Irukandji syndrome is pretty much the most painful thing that anyone can experience.

Whoa -

One unusual symptom associated with Irukandji syndrome is a feeling of "impending doom". Patients have been reported as being so certain that they are going to die that they beg their doctors to kill them to get it over with.[11] Symptoms generally abate in 4 to 30 hours, but may take up to two weeks to resolve completely.
