Imogen Heap - Hide And Seek - Live

A beautiful live performance by Imogen Heap.

Her mic is routed through what is called a digital vocoder. This device basically uses her voice as input signal, to which she applies pitches from the keyboard in front of her.

Many artists use it, that how they get some guitars to talk, the talk box. You can note a talk box by the tube that is next to the mic.

The talk box can be used with an effects pedal (Generic Volume Pedal, and even a wah pedal), or your sound guy can do it for you depending on how much rampaging you do on stage...Think Angus Young, doesnt have time to stomp on a pedal!

EDIT: Remiss I am!

"Van Halen used a Heil Talk Box on the single "Can't Get This Stuff No More", from their short-lived 1996 reunion with original lead singer David Lee Roth and the recording of their Best of Volume I greatest hits album. According to guitarist Edward Van Halen, the tube from the talk box used in the first part of the solo didn't work properly unless stuck into the back of his throat, triggering his gag reflex. As a result, Van Halen's guitar tech Matt Bruck had to use the tube while Van Halen played the solo." Talk Box
