Introducing the Beastie Boys

Before Buddhism, Grand Royal, or yes, even Ione Skye, there was the young and restless, hardcore band, with a girl on drums. This early (‘83?) Beastie Boys appearance on Manhattan’s Scott and Gary Show shows that YouTube is the place where high school year book photos come alive!

Notice he's got a brittish accent when he sings even though he's from NY. I used to rip on guys who did this, but they all listened to were Crass and Subhumans and the like and wanted to be them. Too fun.

That girl on drums is Kate Schellenbach. She was the drummer for The Beastie Boys from 1981 to 1984, and later drummed for Luscious Jackson.

She is currently a segment producer on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
