From YT:
"On a recent trip to Europe, a family of three generations (a Holocaust survivor, his daughter and his grandchildren) dance to Gloria Gaynor's pop song - 'I Will Survive' at concentration camps and memorials throughout Europe.
This clip was first edited with the help of my friend Pisithpong Siraphisit who runs Compeung Art Village, Chiang Mai, Thailand.
This dance is a tribute to the tenacity of the human spirit and a celebration of life.
Despite the systematic brutality and cruelty endured, we have still survived."
See Pt 3, wherein the Auschwitz survivor experiences flashbacks and talks about what it is to have survived the holocaust:

ponceleonsays...Fucking AWESOME!
Humor is one of best ways to deal with anything tragic. If you aren't laughing at your misfortune, you need to... The sight of this little old man trying to dance with his grand-kids is just pure fucking awesome!!

antsays...Who makes this version of the song?
Samaelsmithsays...Interesting. I totally get it and loved it but some small part of me was a little bemused and... um, put off(?) by the irreverant display at such grim sites. But hey, if anyone deserves to be irreverant, this guy definitely does. Wonderful.
chilaxesays...@ant, I thought the song at the end was also a nice touch. That was Leonard Cohen's Dance me to the end of love.
NaMeCaFsays...The granddaughters are hot as!
Oh and uh, yeah, good on 'em.
Yogisays...This was totally worth that "Holocaust" thing.
DerHasisttotsays...Survivor's guilt is bad, but survivor's gloat seems wrong to me. Dancing at their home or in their community I would have been totally behind them, but at the sites of torture and killing it seems wrong to me.
breaddoughrisingsays...I'm sure the thinking was "In your face Hitler!", but I see this as more "In your face 6 million who didin't survive!"
mxxconsays...ya..i totally understand the intention, but still celebrating/dancing at such dark place.. seems very inappropriate, especially to passers-by that wouldn't understand the context.

Ryjkyjsays...My wife pictures this as "dance all over those fucking Nazis." BTW, she's a sociologist with a special interest in the holocaust.
ajkidosays...Yeah definitely had mixed feelings there. And damn people learn to dance before you make a dance video ffs.
