I never met a nice South African either, but I think it's because tourists of a certain type switch their brains off when abroad, and that's where I met them. Same goes for tourists of lots of other nationalities.

I've never met a "nice" South African, but I've worked with some who were decent and OK and very funny. They are tough, gruff, teutonic people but not all bad.
