Not hassling a couple jesus freaks because they weren't doing anything wrong doesn't make him a good cop. I'm sure he noticed the camera in his face too. Sure, he was friendly, but so was this cop. All I see in this video is sheep's clothing.

That's a self-fulfilling attitude. If you assume all cops are bad and treat them thusly, I think you'll find that all cops treat you badly. I suspect about 90% of cops aren't bad - and I suspect about 90% of people aren't bad.

That said, how sad is it that a cop not hassling a protester has become so rare to be noteworthy?

It's not necessarily that most cops are bad, but the ignorance of some good people (some of whom are "cops") causes them to err against society without their understanding that they are doing so. People see the world differently and make judgements based on their limited perspective. So a cop thrashes a humanbeing that they perceive to be a threat to their ordered view of society. License to fuck up those that threaten their vision of the world. I could easily see myself doing the same thing, because when I'm driving on the highway I hate the world.

I love the protest idea. Anyone know more about them?

The US is a fascist police state. Fascism is bad. The enforcers of fascist authorities are bad, and the people who call them good are bad.


I think the apologists don't understand why decent people hate cops. It's not that we've seen a few videos on youtube and don't understand that these are the 'bad apples'. Those incidents are trivial; when cops behave especially badly it's only a symptom of their breed's inherent corruption.

In my experiance police are really just bad. I think your 90% figure is close to 100% wrong. I'm not a criminal, But I've had to deal with them from time to time, many times about things that I wasn't the instagator of, and a few where it was me that f'd up .. They escalate all situations as soon as they show up! They lie anytime it suits them, they will put their lies in writing and play god with peoples lives and futures, based on their judgement of situations. They are power tripping Aholes who think that civilians are the enemy scum, there is nothing more imporatant to them than THIER safety and that THEY are shown respect.
Hell, if they are shown enough respect they might actually let crimes be forgiven (by them....our overlords).
And as it has been pointed out already, a video of a cop doing nothing evil is on the top 20 list of the sift. Yay.

Sometimes I wish ignorant cop-haters like you had to live in an actual fascist police state (NK for example) in order to learn the true meaning of the concepts you so blithely bandy about. Some people in the US abuse their positions of power, no doubt about that, and it's good to want to see that change. But to lump all law-enforcement (and government, for that matter) into a ball of "fascism" only shows how ignorant, hateful and/or paranoid-delusional you are.

This is a typical attitude of those who don't value freedom.

The United States is horrifyingly oppressive. Everything from the individual's movements to his communications down to his actual body chemistry is strictly controlled. Good people find that intolerable.

There's no excuse. Being slightly less repressive than North fucking Korea is not something to be proud of.
