How High Can You Hear? [test]

YouTube description:

Me, I'm deaf already!

NOTE: Depending on the quality you can play the video back at, your particular speakers/headphones/sound card setup, and even the down sampling YouTube places on videos uploaded, it's possible sounds in the very high end of the spectrum might not actually be playing properly, so if you can't hear in the top spectrum, it might not be your fault!

;)

(via digg, I rated perfectly fine for someone much older than I am... I must ask my children whether it's my setup or me)
Fantomassays...

15,300 through my shitty earbuds. Might try this later with my Beyerdynamic headphones to see if I get a different result.

The volume also fluctuated as it rose in pitch, I don't know if thats the headphones or my ears.

Xaielaosays...

12'960 @ 43. Which is good because I listened to very loud music in my youth (metal) and went to a tun of concerts in my 20's. These days my left ear is rarely not ringing and my right ear enjoys chiming in quite often to boot . I was a bit worried my result would be quite a bit lower.

I did have to use my PC speakers, my headset is old and failed to output anything over 7k hertz. I only use it for the mic these days though.

shinyblurrysays...

Check out your results on youtube..on this video I received a higher result than what I was able to hear maybe with a purer recording of the tone on yt. It was about 1000hz off from this video. Tones are available even in increments of 250hz

Shaydesays...

15.5 kHz @ 48, though there was an undertone that continued longer. I guess I'm not a teenager any more.

It's a pretty good test of my cheapo Logitech computer speakers as I got the same result with fairly high-specced headphones.

oritteroposays...

I checked my setup by getting my kids to listen to it They confirmed it was working just fine to over 18kHz, but unfortunately for me I could only hear up to about 13.

MonkeySpanksaid:

19,120Hz @ 41 on my AE2 Bose Headphones. Headphones might play a big role here boys and girls; don't be quick to judge your hearing.

Paybacksays...

As a youth and young adult installing monster car stereos and going to heavy metal concerts, this is not a thing I need or want to test. I know my hearing is shit.

bareboards2says...

11,700. "Most people under 50 can hear this."

I'm 62.

I'm practically youthful.

My avoidance of rock concerts and NASCAR races is paying off!
