YouTube: Using sensitive sound equipment the team try to find out how an owl can fly so silently compared to other birds.

I've upvoted, but this is a terrible explanation of why owl wings are silent. Owl wings move tremendous amounts of air: the idea that they glide to stay silent is hogwash. Owls wings and feathers have some incredible adaptations to reduce noisy air turbulence - there's a better explanation here: http://www.asknature.org/strategy/938e8c4d8e2bf786fa5c9922d181273e
