It's not a tough question, jackass - what you were supposed to say was, "they f*cked their mom".

The Bible - teaching kids true morality about incest since 30 AD ~400 AD.

Idiot indeed. If you believe in the Bible then the answer is simple.... Adam and Eve had more children not recorded in the Bible. So Cain and Abel had children with their sisters.

This sorry excuse for a religious leader should know this.

So beautiful... so beautiful.

And then if they come up with some answer for this, you ask about the whole incest thing.

And they start saying, well, they were perfect, so no genetic issues, so incest was ok.

Right... so at what point did incest become heinous then? Really, at what point did it stop being ok and start being wrong?

It's crud like this that SHOULD give bible bashers pause for thought, but unfortunately doesn't, they rationalize it away in some weird logic loop.

everyone's related?

the book of .. something or other, lost or banned by the earliest of hebrews, says something about women from another land. ( Cain and Able were mackin' on some slutty gentiles that showed up)

but that's just a cop out.. what edd said. = ]

city of NOD is where cain went after his banishment.
of course that answers the viewers question but opens a whole new book of whoop-ass on this very VERY uneducated priest.
on a somewhat related subject, cain was theorized by some religious scholars to have lain with lilith, adams first wife.
yeah..you heard me..adams first wife, who was then reviled as the mother of all demons.
(which seems to be a pattern for ex-wives for some men).
ok kids..go have fun with that.
i cant give you ALL the fun stuff to mess with your very religious friends all at once,
your head might explode.

ravermansays...

Eve was effectively Adam's sister - or as a clone - identical twin.
And out of Abel the vegetarian and Cain the meat eating farmer - who is more like what we consider a 'real man'?

Surely it would have been a decision between your brother or your children.

deputydogsays...

awful. embarrassing. hilarious.

he knows that everything he claims to believe in is unexplainable, illogical bullshit but chooses instead to pull in what's probably a hefty wage from Fucks News as a celebripriest. there should be a warning at the bottom of the screen during programmes like this which states 'WARNING: ALL FATHER MORRIS'S ANSWERS ARE BASELESS. PINCH OF SALT RECOMMENDED'.

I'm as anti-church as anyone I know, but...last I heard, the Catholic church didn't proclaim the literal truth of the bible. It's an allegory, a metaphor. In other words, there is no problem here...unless you're a strict fundamentalist.

I suspect he didn't want to try to deal with a concept as "complicated" as metaphor in a 60 second segment.

If only they could stop for one second and realize that the bible doesn't need to be taken literally,

they cant just 'realize that the bible doesn't need to be taken literally' because that would be saying that the bible isn't literal. which im sure would rub a few fox news fans the wrong way.

Arsenault185says...

So are atheists, non-believers, religion haters etc all supposed to believe that people of faith only believe that what ever is in the bible and nothing more could have ever happened? Get real. Even if you don't believe in the bible i should hope you are not so ignorant so as to think so. Whats in the bible as we know it are select writing on select things.

EDDsays...

^Arsenault, haven't you noticed the that there are a whole lot of bible 'literalists' in the States? They tend to overlap with the 'young Earth' crowd and their stupidity and ignorance knows no bounds. Now, even if this reverend isn't one of these folks, his attitude is enabling the idiocracy of such fringe movements and as such deserves to be ridiculed at the very least.

If you believe in the bible the answer is obviously something that wasn't in the bible? . . . So pretty much the opposite of every other situation, where believers tend to go with something in the bible, and non-believers would go with something not in the bible.

Honestly, I think you just want to believe that because you find the idea of sibling incest a bit less abhorrent then parent-child incest. And you're right.

>> ^Kraz:
(Genesis 5:4) The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters.

Seth was fathered after the whole fratricide incident. So unless seth's younger siblings were also time travelers that part doesn't help.

The answer is;

If you believe the bible word for word your a moron. That or you've never taken even a half-arsed attempt to understand the natural world and it's actual history. And yes.. I am calling the 65% of Americans who believe the bible word for word.. morons.

As to the Catholic Church. They have become surprisingly progressive in the last decade or so. They've apologized for their wrong doings, to the pagans, the jews, etc. They have abolished the idea of Hell. They have openly stated the bible is not a direct link to god and was written by followers of the apostles.. ie men, fallible men and should be looked to as a guide, stories to teach, not literal truths. They have even basically accepted evolution, saying that faith and evolution are not at odds.

Surprisingly progressive for the largest branch of the church in the world. Not surprising, it is the smallest denomination here in the US. Sucks our first settlers were the most puritanical Christians since the middle ages, a taint that still interferes with our countries progress in every way on a daily basis.

Jaacesays...

Just admit that it's a fairy tale that should only be used as a good way to live your life (if you believe it is) and nothing more than that. It's not a fucking historical document, so get over it. Stop pretending it actually happened!

I could rip out any one of Grimm's fairy tales and stick it in the Bible someplace and it would fit right in.
