So wait, what exactly is going on here?

Seems to be remnants of an old ceremony that has turned into a pep rally for awakening nationalistic feelings. I don't really know how and why they would have enacted this sort of ceremony at the very beginning.. "Ooh, lets have our border guards throw their thumbs at each other and huff puff their chests for fun". I'm guessing, it was bored border guards coming up with something to do when people/superiors came to see how their loyalty was standing up in front of Indian guards.

This isn't so much 'culture' as a created event that acts out past hostilities in a preposterous way. Don't get all PC just because their flouncing around looks silly. Thinking that you're not allowed to laugh at anything other than your own kind is really sad and limiting.

i have seen it long time back when used to go to my granny's place. even i thought it looked funny. my home town is half an hour from the border.
