Oh, this is so hard to listen to. My lovely brother and his lovely family are sooooo deep in the church.

He even told me a story recently about a co-worker whose wife was interested in the church, so he was asking my brother questions. Before he answered them, he told his FELLOW ENGINEER that "be careful, the Mormon Church makes logical sense, learn more and you might convert." Dang if his FELLOW ENGINEER didn't convert six months later.

I find it cringe-worthy. I knew most of the stuff in this presentation, not much new here for me, but somehow hearing it all lined up neatly.... oh, the pain. My lovely brother and his lovely family. Dang.

I'd be curious to hear a Mormon's reaction to the topics in this video. Unfortunately, I don't think it would even make a dent. Faith based thinking is very different to consensus based thinking. Faith based thinking is a way of life, a reason for living and an insurance policy for the afterlife. Faith is an identity. Consensus is sort of an identity too, but one that shifts based on new information. The worst thing a consensus thinker has to worry about in losing an argument is a shift from one logical paradigm to another, while the faith thinker loses everything - family, friends, the entire framework for how they approach life and the heavenly rewards due to them for all their suffering/penitence/martyrdom/etc.
