theo47says...Wow.
Thanks.
NickyPsays...no way man!!!!!!!!! Hey, now we know this lets all use twice as much fuel
choggiesays...Hmmmm. The statement is what it is, agreed? Some don't believe it's hype? Some do.
benjeesays...Hmm, yeah - bit of an anti-climax (
notbad enough to deserve my rare down-vote; as I 'don't believe its hype').Random related fact (ties into your avatar too, Choggle): Cows produce more polution then planes...Although, cow crap not causing global dimming - so may have to re-think that theory!
choggiesays...Gotta give it up to the methane camp-Keeping more cows than one needs causes noxious gas-to have to deal with locally and otherwise-So do people living in concentrated areas, starting fires, and pockets of methane in landfills. Forest fires from lightni9ng strikes, volcanic eruptions,(and steadiy fuming of the same) Gaia's seapage from under the ocean and into the air. Does not our effulgence pale in comparision? Show me some hard data which will unequivically smash seasoned common sense? Fer crissakes, even the tree huggers will agree, more carbon dioxide means more lush foliage!
NickyPsays...Benjee, cows may produce more greenhouse gases than planes, but planes fly at 36000 feet. Anyway, cows are farmed, thier numbers are not natural.
NickyPsays...Sorry choggie, just read you're post fully.
'even the tree huggers will agree, more carbon dioxide means more lush foliage!'
Where did you get your facts from? Plants photosynthesis to produce carbohydrates, which removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Yet like animals they need to respire to produce ATP, which is used as energy. This process produces CO2. Ecosystems are finely balanced, more of a necessary component is not good. An example of this is eutropification. This is a process that happens when to much nutrient is introduced to fresh water systems. If you're interested this link explanes

benjeesays...I wasn't saying anything substantial with the cow fact - just that Choggle's avatar reminded me of this. I even dis-proved its relevance with the point of planes causing 'Global Dimming' - the ironic counter-force to global warming (which will cause even more apocalyptical effects!) YAY!
darkrowansays...video != title, tags; Downvote
NickyPsays...The great irony is that with the rising global temperatures the gulf stream in the north Atlantic is slowing. This could lead to north west Europe getting colder. The ice caps are melting in the Arctic circle which is causing more fresh water to enter the Arctic ocean and north Atlantic. Because fresh and salt water are of different densities anyway this link explains it better than I can

Science lesson over for today,
choggiesays...Go Nick P.-For me the peace comes from the facts-we are insignificant with regards to the power of the planet to initiate cyclical changes-Changes that "appear" to correspond with our miniscule frittering about-The great irony is that the phenoms we clearly observe and understand better now, are not a reasonable argument for using the dataum for ones own purposes-sorry, the sky is falling and it's probly from us?-Perhaps the spiral down in quality of life for humans is the result of how far out the spiritual loop we are collectively, and the physical manifestaions are the planet telling us to undergo some fundamental inner changes. Otherwise, hell we aughtta erect a statue to old Al G.-He's the voice crying in the wilderness.

choggiesays...oh yeah and ya got me on the happy-trees with more CO2-Guess I need to whip the ol' science primmer-Yoink!
NickyPsays...The believe that anything we do can never be enough to change our climate is a dangerous one. One more example for you here. The Aral Sea in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Please read, then tell me humans can do no harm.
