therealblankmansays...The current level of graphics in pc games is amazing- Age of Pirates, Prey, FEAR, Episode 2 and Portal, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The graphics engines in these games are approaching Pixar levels of realism in real-time. Albeit early Pixar ;-)
The latest generation of video cards have 1Ghz GDDR4 memory running through 512bit data busses, 650MHz core clocks and many, many more buzzwords. Not one of them, however, can run DirectX 10. Every single graphics board on the market will be obsolete in a couple of months. Oh, well, my trusty Radeon 9800 will have to hold on a bit longer.
Kruposays...Interesting observation about DirectX, do you have some background I can read about that?
'cause I'm planning on a nice upgrade in like two months, and if that's the case, I'm concerned.
But the way you just described that also concerns and confuses me - because the whole DirectX series seems to allow for a liberal amount of backwards compatability - hope you can elighten me... or perhaps Wiki can: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX_10
Interesting - well by the time that becomes an issue it'll be time for a new gfx card for me anyway - my nVidia 5200 will soldier on a little while longer then - but I hope/assume my new mobo will do just fine.
therealblankmansays...DirectX 10 will be much more than a generational leap. They've coded pretty much from scratch. "According to Microsoft, Direct3D 10 will be able to display graphics up to 8 times more quickly than DirectX Graphics 9.0c".
The first games, such as Crysis, will certainly run under DirectX 9.0x, but the difference in graphics is, frankly, startling. I've seen a couple of demos, and have been blown away. It's a bigger leap than from, say, Doom to the original Quake. You don't need full DirectX 10 hardware to run Vista, but because Vista is such a graphics-intensive OS, it will be much smoother and prettier with it.
When will actual hardware be released? I dunno, but I'm still gonna wait.
Kruposays...Hmm, then I'm reasonably reassured that I have little to worry about. Phew.
Time to continue drooling over new system components...
slybrisays...Can't wait to ironically download a pirate copy from Pirate Bay. Yarrrr!
westysays...um drx10 will not be 8times faster thats utter bs im pritty sure u might be able to do something alot faster in drx10 than 9 but as a whole it wont be 8 times faster. and the simple fact is u will be able to play games for another 3 yearswith drx 9 hardware and have things look pritty nice. stop beliving all the hyp. alot of the things that make games look good are simple things that we can do for years and wont be changed that grately by drx10. allso vista is not that graphicly intensive i mean realy. compared to hl2 ore anny other games vista is pritty simple graphicly. stop beliving ms hyp.
