I always thought this movie was kindof racist and simpleminded.

That's because it's presented from the POV of Michal Douglas' character, who is somewhat racist and is stressed to the point of being simple minded.

Racist? Perhaps you should watch the movie again.
There are a lot of flawed people in the film, from a number of different ethnic backgrounds. There are also a number of good people in the film, also from different ethnic backgrounds.

Damn lucky that Vicent and Jules weren't enjoying a tasty hamburger there that morning.
