Fake, Toxic Eggs and Grapes are Made and Sold in China

Since living in China, a few friends have mentioned the existence of fake eggs. I thought it might be an urban myth, but a good friend told me she actually bought a fake egg, and discovered the fake when she tried to cook it.

I am really paranoid to buy eggs and milk, and only go to western stores to buy such commodities, now.

People call China a communist country, but it really is more capitalist and laissez faire than the US. Imagine the R&D, supply chain, and operations that have to be developed to mass produce a fake egg! I imagine the margins must be razor thin (video says they are 4X selling a real egg), yet still such an effort is made.

The invisible hand is in full effect, here. For those of you who lean libertarian or corporatist, behold what unchecked capitalism will yield, for better or worse.

@Asmo I meant profit in absolute dollars (or RMB) per egg. The four fold number is a comparison only; they don't give the profit margin nor the profit in dollars per egg.

Is it $0.01/egg profit or more or less?

the relevance of your inquiry is greatly diminished by considering the magnitude of production.
really what you ask, what is eggs cost? your post implies that you are thinking eggs is cost >2 cents? seems silly and not so relevant

Not really. I want to know how stable this business is. With large volumes, a razor thin margin can mean huge gains or huge losses. What happens if an illegal fake egg manufacturers goes into the red a few million for a few quarters? It would be interesting to understand the consequences to a venture that doesn't have to answer to shareholders but must have to pay some piper.>> ^CaptainPlanet:
