Excellent Short about Soda Pop Stop, A Soda Store

John Nese is the proprietor of Galcos Soda Pop Stop in LA. His father ran it as a grocery store, and when the time came for John to take charge, he decided to convert it into the ultimate soda-lovers destination. About 500 pops line the shelves, sourced lovingly by John from around the world. John has made it his mission to keep small soda-makers afloat and help them find their consumers. Galcos also acts as a distributor for restaurants and bars along the West Coast, spreading the gospel of soda made with cane sugar (no high-fructose corn syrup if John can avoid it).

Great post. This needs deserve more votes.

Fentimans Ginger Beer is very special, if you get an opportunity you should try it. You actually get proper heat from the Ginger, and its very slightly alcoholic which adds to the flavour too. I didn't know they made a Cola though, so I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for that.

so he's saying that corn syrup sucks ass, is bad for you, and takes more to sweeten... i thought our "body cant tell the difference" (tm)

i think ill listen to retailer who puts customers above profits... surprise, he makes a profit anyway because he's honest. shame on american companies wasting water to produce corn for syrups and animal feed.

there is no drought, there is a misuse of resources. shame shame shame.

Corn syrup is mostly fructose. Our body can tell the difference and processes it differently than other forms of sugars. Our body craves fructose because it is naturally found in relatively low quantities in foods that are so damn good for you that they cancel out all the bad things that fructose does to you see: apples, bananas, berries, etc.. Problems arise when all the healthy goodnesses are stripped away leaving only the refined not-so-goodness.

Every time I visit my family I want to get at least one Green River. It's not exclusive to Chicago, but it's limited in proximity to Chicago and I never knew that growing up. Now that I do, I treasure it when I can find it b/c it takes me back to my childhood.

I recently saw it in a local Meijer last St. Patrick's Day, having not thought about it in a great while, and said "OHMYGODGREENRIVER!!!" I proceeded to get gawked at and made fun of by my wife, moments later.

Also, I recently took the diliciously lime Green-River-goodness and mixed it with some coconut rum. DHEE-LEEESH-OOOUUUSSSS

I'm very partial to Black Cherry - And I will only buy it from small bottlers that still use glass bottles. I find some amazing brands which are sold locally at Fruit Stands in my area (local stores that local fruit growers use to sell their own fruit directly to the consumer without a middleman.)

I'm sometimes surprised that some of these small mom & Pop stands often carry pop/soda from different bottlers from all over North America. Sadly they don't ever have the variety. They always have the same few flavors (Black Cherry, Root Beer, Orange, Cream Soda, Ginger Ale, Cola, and some times Lime)

I'd love to try some of those other more exotic flavors.

I found Fentiman's Cola.

Didn't taste anything like CocaCola or Pepsi. Actually tastes more like those cola bottle sweets. I wonder what its like in a Cuba Libre...

Lovely to watch again. for the multiple time. So great.

Makes me want to forage for quality pop/soda and drink it and savor it as a quality home crafted beer.

The fuck I can get quality Soda though. or Beer. I can distill water from the air though, MmmMmMMM fresh H2O.
