Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros live on Letterman

Fantastic new band make their television debut on Letterman. They perform 'Home' with an abundance of energy, and there's great chemistry between the two singers, as well.

Great music, great energy, it's a shame they performed it to themselves, not to us. They didn't engage the audience in any way, in fact seemed to go out of their way to turn their backs or make it very clear they were singing to each other rather than the audience. They made it feel like you were interrupting something by watching. The best live acts are the ones that engage the audience, these guys looked like they were using over the top energy to make up for extreme nervousness.

They get an upvote for the music, but not the performance.

^ I don't mind them performing to each other. That's just what they do and it works. I give them bonus points for not being one of another endless series of Coldplay or Foo Fighter clones. It's something new and a little different.

@Xax There's a pendulum that swings between pretentious and derivative. I'll take the pretentious side every time. What you call pretentious today, will be called "groundbreaking" tomorrow.>> ^Xax:
Pretentious, particularly the little boy in the dress.

I dont like the song , but there is nothing technically bad about it. I can see it doing well as a popular song kind of thing drunk people like to dance to.

as for them prancing around seemed like they were a bunch of drama students, I don't think it added anything to it , and to me it certainly didn't look natural. to me it dident evan look like they particualy engaged eatchother looked like some random slighty drunk overconfident girl dancing around a guy she dident know.

Performing on a television show has got to be one of the most foreign and bizarre experiences for 99% of musicians. My friends saw them play in Toronto last month, they were floored by what they could described as a near-spiritual experience (pretty upset I opted-out of that evening). The band are very engaging in an actual live music venue, even walking into the crowd and making physical contact.
Damn I love going to shows!

How are they pretentious? All I see is a bunch of people having fun on stage...

Not a fan of the hippie look and the accent of the female singer, but +1 for the song and the blonde on the accordion. Oh, and the beautiful whistling in the beginning. I am insanely jealous of people who can whistle.

Yeah, I don't know if pretentious is the best word exactly. But the "neo hippy" look, barefoot dancing and jumping, cutesy, happy-go-lucky bullshit was just too nauseating for me.

Go to any state fair and you can find 10 more bands just like this. Yes it isn't a coldplay or foo fighters clone but it is far from original. I agree as to the performance not being great. That with a same old sound doesn't get vote from me.

I want to say really bad things about you, but most of what you say is awesome so I won't. I guess it comes down to the difference between your experience and my own. This video (skip to 2:00) makes me realize this is a band of friends who are having fun doing what they do best. Maybe it was being on national television... but I don't think so. They have a sense of humor to them that perhaps you simply are unaware of because of your own conceit -- there may also be a generation and/or cultural gap that prevents you from seeing the sincerity they display while on stage.

I think they were fantastic. They're hippies, which I'm normally not a fan of but they make it work. He can whistle wonderfully. I love her accent and spirit. I'm surprised so many of you are put off by this.

What I took away from this video is the epic combover/ tying the long hair over the looooooooong forehead/bald scalp from the lead singer. Gotta remember it for when my time comes and my long hair melts away.
