Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Brett Kavanaugh Testify

Seth takes a closer look at Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's testimony to the Senate about the allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Damning a man for some nebulous event when he was 17-- just for political points. Disgraceful.

What a sad spectacle for all to see--- Democrats using Ford and Kavanaugh pawns to derail a good/ decent morally just man.

Blasey Ford believes 1 POV

Many many others state the opposite, under oath, penalty of law.

Who do you believe?

WE will have a new SCOTUS.

newtboysays...

It's far more honest and honorable that outright stealing a nomination, neglecting their constitutional obligations for pure partisan gains, degrading and abusing our system of government. Wanting a full vetting of a lifetime appointment to the highest court is the norm, making these appointments pure political spectacle and obstructing procedure is 100% the methodology of Republicans....you're just pissed the Democrats are finally learning to play the game republicans have been playing for decades. I can only hope they continue that MO when the Democrats seize congress next month.

Republicans are now insisting on an FBI investigation or they'll vote no. We will have a new justice, but it may not be Kavanaugh....it might not be a right winger.

I believe there's a question about who to believe. I believe that question disqualifies the nominee. Justices should be above reproach and their morality unquestionable, he fails on both counts. If you have just a reasonable doubt about his innocence, and no reasonable person wouldn't at this point, that's enough to disqualify any nominee.

The rule of law is being followed. Nothing being stolen-- Politics is a nasty business. It was on full displayed yesterday.

Democrats sprung an 11th hour attack "October surprise" on Kavanaugh to smear him in public opinion and delay the vote, A week later Democrats want to delay more for an FBI investigation.. What hog wash. just a political stunt -- I'm sure they will bring about another false claim before the senate vote .
Bottom line no one corroborates her testimony ..

Republicans are not insisting on and FBI -- only Flake is -- A political cover for him to vote yes today and get it out of committee.

FBI HAS looked 6 times into Kavanaugh character and background. Now another one for a 40 yr old repressed "memory" ?

Are your you or any friends alter boys?

If this was true, all that was done was some tit grabbing by foolish boys.
You want to disqualify a man of sexual fumblings when he was 17 boy? Is that the society you want to live in? 50 -90% of men would be guilty.

An old girl can call the police and say you wrongly fondled her when you were 17? And you lose your career of over it? BS.
NO cop department would even giver her the time of day.

Justices should be above reproach and their morality unquestionable. Kavanaugh wins on both counts.

Democrats followed the rule of law.
Republicans want a last minute FBI investigation, Democrats have wanted one for months.

No corroborating witnesses were allowed, that's different from there being none.

Flake and those with him, at least 3 at last count and growing.

Who told you it's a repressed memory? She's been talking about it for 6 years, which is documented, and there's no evidence she ever repressed it.

Ha! Instantly switching from 'didn't happen' to 'it's normal behavior' . No, I'm no saint, but I never forced myself on another person, and I don't lie about my past in order to get a lifetime job judging others.
Yes, sexual fumblings that equate to sexual attacks are disqualifying. If you think that's normal or proper, you likely are guilty. I do want to live in a society where sexual predators must answer for their misdeeds, not walk away without consequences. You have daughters, don't you? It's ok with you if some boys push them into a room and grope them forcefully, you'll just tell them those boys were immature, so the assault/ rape attempt doesn't count?

He isn't a justice yet, and this isn't a trial. It's a job interview. Not being advanced to the highest court is not losing his career. Having his past examined before a lifetime appointment is not a criminal trial. What BS.

Are you saying there aren't right wing candidates that don't have sexual assaults in their backgrounds? I guess we'll just have to put off filling the seat until a left leaning judge is nominated then....by the next president to follow precedent.

Kavanaugh's morality is being successfully questioned and so clearly is not above reproach. You're wrong on both counts.

I feel that he probably won't make it. Sadly once you are accused of sexual anything with a female, you are pretty much fucked. There is no more innocent until proven guilty. Were I him, even though it has been scientifically proven that lie detector tests are inherently flawed, I would have volunteered to take one just to push past this.

On the flip side, the possible next nominee is Judge Amy Coney Barrett and there is precedent for them to completely skip the committee vote, so there is a good possibility that we can still get a conservative judge on the court. She has not been as harsh towards abortion rights either, so there is a silver lining.

After seeing his temperament on display, that's probably a good thing.
It's odd to me that a terrorised reluctant witness was incredibly more composed and professional than an applicant for a job that requires calm detachment and a firm control over one's emotions, during what is essentially his job interview.
Instead of remaining calm, he went so far as to attack the senators in his answers, not a good move in a job interview and a clear indication he's not able to put aside personal feelings to judge fairly or professionally.

I hope the next nominee has less baggage and is closer to center, or we'll likely repeat this process.

Yeah, I haven't been impressed with him as of late. He seems less like a judge and more like a politician. I suppose he cracked under the pressure.

Two things:
1: " once you are accused of sexual anything with a female, you are pretty much fucked"
unless you're running for president as a republican... then you're fine.

2: " it has been scientifically proven that lie detector tests are inherently flawed"
Completely agree with this. I cringe every time someone says that Ford took a polygraph. Those things are bullshit.

I DO feel that Kavanaugh should have the presumption of innocence. I have no idea if he actually did assault Ford, but the accusation alone merits investigation (even if he was guilty, the investigation probably wouldn't have turned up anything after so long).

Honestly, had anyone but Hillary been running I think it would have sunk the S.S. Donald. The election interference didn't help, but Hillary is a non-electable candidate for a lot of people. I'm fairly certain that as long as the Dems don't somehow fuck up massively and allow her to run again, that Trump will be a one and done candidate.

I didn't like Hillary either, but it doesn't change the fact that people looked at Hillary, looked at Trump and decided "you know what, I'm going to vote for the guy that admitted to sexually assaulting women".

And if you buy that "locker room talk" nonsense, I have a bridge to sell you....

I'm pretty sure that if the tables were turned and somehow Hillary ran as a Republican, the Democrats would have voted for Trump as well. We tend to overlook things like reason and sanity in the USA when it comes to people/teams/etc that we hate.

Plus Trump was selling a message that a lot of people bought into, that they were somehow going to go back to a time when factory and coal jobs were a thing for middle class union type people. People who didn't work in those fields knew it was bogus from the get go, but when you live in a shitty area and desperately want to scroll back progress so that you can get your guaranteed 30+ an hour job/lifetime pension without a college education, you tend to overlook small things like guys grabbing pussies.

You are right, in a sane country Hillary probably would have been elected. She also probably wouldn't have been eligible to run because she would have beaten out Obama in 2008. She didn't because people were so desperate for something, anything to change in our fucked up government that they went with Obama. Hell, I even voted for him the first time. But, we lost our sanity sometime around the period when elected an actor over a generally 'nice guy' kind of president. Said actor/governor then instituted the following amazing things:

* The War on Drugs - utter failure
* Reaganomics - depends on who you ask, but it pretty much fucked us for years to come.
* Wonderful changes and cuts to education - See previous. They are still trying to undo the fuckery that was done to education in the 80's.
* Increased military spending to astronomical levels - pretty much fucked anyone not working for defense contractors.
* Destabilized Nicaragua and pissed off Iran worse at us - yeah, that didn't work out for us.
* Largely ignored the AIDs epidemic - tragedy on multiple levels.
* Etc

That fucker is still viewed as one of the best presidents and Carter as one of the worst.

I wish he had been asked how he would treat a defendant in his court who acted like he did at the hearing. I expect a few days in contempt at a minimum.

Probably not most Democrats, but some. Democrats are far worse at ignoring disqualifying foibles and voting for their team no matter what, which cost them the last election. If you had slapped a red tie on Charles Manson's corpse and made him the candidate, most Republicans would have voted for him.

Totally agree about his message being an obvious lie, and that people bought the lie and ignored reality.

Not viewed that way by everyone. Carter is by far my favorite president of my lifetime, before, during, and after holding office he beats each and every one easily by any metric. That man almost single handedly eradicated the guinea worm, he's a God damn planetary hero.....and the last honest man in American politics.

Definitely agree with you about Carter, he was a lot better president than many seem to think. Definitely the last trustworthy one.

And by far the smartest. Can you imagine Trump designing nuclear submarines?!
I saw a news piece on him a few months back....he still lives in a house he built himself that's smaller than mine, and mine is only 1200 square.ft.
It's Carter's birthday today.
Damn, I wish he was on the supreme court....but I'm sure he doesn't.
