It isnt at all restrictive to follow the moral law of God, its in fact the only real fredom, and its provided to liberate us from slavery to sin and to the devil. Yes, not everyone fears God, but not everyone has the common sense not to stick their finger in an electric socket either. I have had personal experience with demons and demon possession, and know they are working to deceive every person about the truth; to lead people away from God. What the bible says about this world being under dominion of Satan is not an exaggeration..it is the horrifying truth of this place, that there is deception working against you on every conceivable level. It really comes down to what kind of person you are..if you are content with the lie, if it suits your moral character, if you love the world instead of the one who made it, then you have already earned your reward and will seek nothing further. Do What Thou Wilt is not the same as do what you want.

It refers to the True Will, the essential path a particular individual must take to realize the potential lying in their own talents and inclinations. It does not refer to passing whims and desires.

Shinyblurry, the spiritual paranoia you are expressing here is definitely a sign of self-restriction. I'm not talking about restriction from hurting other people to get your own way, or restriction from harming oneself by indulging unwisely in drugs, alcohol, or sex. I mean restriction from developing yourself spiritually, from working to attain a direct vision of the divine.

To escape these bonds you would, of course, have to give up the comfort of pat answers and easy decisions. You would have to face the awful realization that no one, really, is telling you what to do. You would have to abandon the warm embrace of a spiritual father figure who tells you where you stand in the universe. These are difficult things to give up.

But they are necessary if you want to grow up spiritually, if you don't want to remain a child for the rest of your life.

Did you know that music and religious ecstasy both activate the same pleasure centers in the brain? I believe the reason that religion is so often anti-music is that on some subconscious level, they know it is a spiritual competitor. Dancing, drugs and sex also activate these pleasure centers, and all 3 of these things are also frequently demonized by religion.

It seems like music and sex would be the superior choice for stimulating that part of the brain, but then again, I've never experienced religious ecstasy. For all I know it may be better than heroin, and I'm the one who is really missing out on the ultimate trip. Is the opiate of the masses literally as good as opium?
