Dianetics is, in short, the mental health ideas that Scientology was designed to support. Written by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard around the 1950's.

Was going to post a scarier clip, but this one is interesting... mostly since its, you-know, a book,... and possibly also the act of being 'audited' by some random jag-off.

(favorite clip, by the way, is Spike Jonze's long-lost brother at 1:46)
