Crazy PR Stunt: REAL Flies used to carry Banner

This was done at the Frankfurt Bookfair 2009.

Publishing house "Eichborn" has a fly as their logo, so they got 200 real flies, attached a little banner to their legs and had them buzz around their stall at the fairground.

Banner had their claim "The publisher with the fly" and the location of their stall at the fair printed on it.

At the end of the clip it sais that "no fly was harmed in the process". Banners were attached with wax and fell off after a few hours.

I'm glad I wasn't the intern that day.

"Hey uh, so we've got these tiny little banners and we want to attach them to the legs of these flies. Do you think you could get this done by 5? Thaaaaaaanks"

We did this as kids: catch flies in a bottle trap, put them in the fridge to slow them down, crazy glue a long narrow strip of single ply toilet paper to them, then let them warm up and fly around with their "banners". Often the strip would be too heavy and the fly would buzz along the ground so you'd have to snip off enough of the paper until the fly could become airborne.

I was extremely sensitive as a kid about all sorts of things and this was certainly at least unkind to the flies but for some reason it didn't bother me.
