Christopher Hitchens: Arrest the Pope!

"This is not a test of Church doctrine, burt a test of Church conduct."
HugeJerksays...

It's a strange world we live in where I felt as though I was more intelligent than the president of the United States for 8 years and now more virtuous than the pope.

How could the Pope ever be arrested. He is literally in the eyes of hundreds of millions (billions?) of Catholics as executing the word of fucking God. So if the Pope says let the pedophiles and sadists go, that is literally what God is saying!!

Your Catholic God condones covering up the crimes of pedophiles!

I completely agree with most everything he says, most of the time; but it really annoys me when he goes on about "the children" like he is in it for them and not to prove his stance on atheism right

I don't think he claims that he is in it for the children. He simply points out the cold hard fact that children have been horribly abused and that apparently the catholic church cares more about its own reputation and about protecting priests than it does about protecting children. Christopher Hitchens isn't in a position where people expect him to actively protect children, but many people do expect their church/religion/religious leaders to be very directly involved in protecting children.

Yay arrest the pope, its not like we have any serbian mass murderers living freely in london or anything... catholics are easy, youre hardly going to get pissed off catholics beating you up in the street. This is about self promotion and is a yawn fail.

Aye, think you missed the meaning of "the children" in this one, ac. He's not saying "WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" drama queen style, but rather the fact that children were abused.

And as a side note, are you sure he's trying to prove atheism is "right"? I would have thought he was trying to prove that atheism is the most rational approach.

I'm sorry.

Does NOBODY else see the flaw in televising that you're going to try to arrest someone when they make their next visit?

"Hey, pope, they're going to arrest you when you go to Britain"
"...Well then lets not go to Britain."

that's precisely the point. they are challenging the pope and the Vatican. if he starts canceling trips then he admits guilt; if he doesn't, they continue their push for prosecution anyway.

Or this is about the pope and religion in general thinking they control morality and by extent the law. Which we must prove they do not.

It's the amount of times he says it, and the fact he says it the exact same way each time. It just feels like he's overdoing it. I'm not explaining what I mean properly, I know! Just this aggravated feeling I get when I see him say it, not just in this clip either, probably cos it's in most of the vids re this issue...

And there's no need for your sidenote, that's just stating the obvious

I think what you're encountering is the hitchens-factor. The more you listen to the man speak, the more inclined you are to punch his smarmy fat face regardless of whether he's right or wrong.

RE: our side note discussion:
Then don't contradict the obvious!
