Christianity in a nutshell

direpicklesays...

In Genesis 3:14, after the fruit-eating incident, God condemns the serpent, saying "upon thy belly shalt thou go," etc. So, presumably it didn't do belly-crawling until after the fruit part, so it must've had legs. Or something like that.

chicarsays...

I hope than it have a version for each religion, because humor is constitional only if everyone (not only one group) was mocked.

If not, this dude just made a anti-constitional attack against a very specific religious group.

We often talk of the oppression of the atheist, but never of the christian, and outside the united state their are the greatest victim of modern thinking.

As punishment: downvote and nsfw for racist propaganda

''Critic against fundementalism'' kind of joke= Funny

''Critic against creationist'' kind of joke= funny

''critic against crime made in the name of ANY religions'' kind of joke= funny

''Meanless anticonstitional direct atack against a SPECIFIC religions relating all inacuracy of this SPECIFIC religions even thought a religion is by definition based in inacurate for outsider mythology'' kind of joke= not funny and criminal.

sometimessays...

Oh chicar....
Literacy really does matter.
It helps to actually read the constitution before making claims about it.

Exactly what part of the constitution do you believe protects religions from criticism?

And how is it that in the more than 200 years that the USA has been around, that this is the first time anyone has brought this up?

Also, every thing in that video is true of Christianity. Can you point out a single part that is contrary to Christian teaching?

statueofmikesays...

I assumed chicar was talking about some obscure VideoSift constitution. Then, by 'Illegal,' she meant not in accordance with Sift law. By this reasoning, you can see why jwray is a criminal. Thank you chicar for pointing out the inaccurate criminal mind behind religious discrimination and oppression.

chicarsays...

There are nothing in the constitution (by constitution i means generic democractic right) who protect anithing of criticism (bless god) but that is not criticism, is motivation free atack against the mythology of a SPECIFIC religion. Because the problem is than actually, their is really the believing of this religion, and this dude mock them without explicite other than a personal vendetta againts corrupted authority who have nothing to do with the religion they pretend to represent.

Laughing of this corrupted authority would be good
Laughing of all religion (including christianity) in the same time in auto derision festival would be good
Laughing of the fidel (and not of the true guilty:the authority) of a VERY SPECIFIC religion is bad as bone.

Protecting this video is like saying we must slain all german because of hitler (or even all american because of bush), is cofound the subjects and the tyrant.

cheesemoosays...

Chicar, I'm not sure I follow you. This video is mocking the people who believe in christianity because their beliefs are silly. He's not saying "because the pope is bad, all christians should die".

chicarsays...

Forget it would you, i have perhaps just a lack of self derision.

(grrr..i am sure than if this video was targeting a SPECIFIC religion other than christianity, you will be all of the same advice i did)

cheesemoosays...

Chicar, if this was against any other religion I would be happy with that too. Now, since I'm an atheist, maybe that's not the best example.

If someone posted a video criticizing atheists, I probably wouldn't agree with it. I would, however, recognize that whoever posted it is perfectly within their rights to mock whatever they want.

choggiesays...

"This video is mocking the people who believe in christianity because their beliefs are silly"

no, that's how you filtered and editorialized cheesemoo....the snotty little tone of the creator speaks tomes as to his particular confusion, as does his infantile assessment of one of the spokes, in the wheel of why you happen to be here, breathing air so sure that the air is there to breathe.......

MINKsays...

Yeah I have seen the light, and I am not Christian.

Instead, I believe that there are tiny things called Quantum Particles that appear and disappear at random ever since the universe was without size and spontaneously exploded because a man in a wheelchair with a funny computer voice told me so and he hasn't yet come up with a new theory which disputes this so I therefore believe his current understanding to be totally 100% verifiable.

/sarcasm

the Bible's a freaking poem, morons! You might as well say that the Beatles claim to be a walrus and an eggman.

MINKsays...

Christians do follow a poem (a theologist and priest dude told me that so it must be true)

Writing back then was very very very different, you can't judge it by modern standards. Even the word "poem" is wrong but we don't have a word for the style the authors of the Bible were using. We call it Biblical I guess.

This guy makes the mistake of taking the Bible literally, and then tries to use that as an argument against all Christians. It's the literalists he should focus on.

As for "it's stupid to believe in a poem" well.. AHA! You fall into my trap, said the spider to the fly. Yes it is stupid to literally believe in your personal interpretation of a poem, just as it is stupid to believe in Hawking when you have no idea wtf he is talking about and even Hawking himself refutes his own previous assertions (as any great and proper scientist SHOULD do when they encounter new information)

So the trap is, you think it's a polarized debate, and you made an assumption about my position.

My position is best summed up by the russian word XUJZNAET.

I refer you to this:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Youre-too-stupid-to-be-an-atheist

I could also make one called "you're too stupid to be a christian" because when you actually look into it, unravelling the Bible is as hard as unravelling quantum mechanics.

But at least we know the Bible exists. Whereas Hawking's stuff is all particle mumbojumbo and blackboards that you couldn't possibly read.

btw I am not christian or atheist, and i don't take a firm position in debates where the finer points are too complex for any of us to understand.

As my Religious Studies teacher said... "You don't think atoms are actually balls spinning around other balls, do you? They're just maths."

Show me a graviton and I will show you Jesus' diary.

qruelsays...

MINK... oh how you amuse me.
this one inparticular had me rolling.
"because when you actually look into it, unravelling the Bible is as hard as unravelling quantum mechanics."
for who ? a monkey ? or someone who is gullible beyond belief.
a great many people have easily unravelled the bible with ease. why, how you ask ??
because the bible makes grandiose absurd claims that are not backed up by history, archeology, or any factual evidence.
check out some of the books on this link (I've provided synopsis's for you)

qruelsays...

the guy who did this video made no mistake, by "taking the bible literally" as you say.
he presents the core foundation of what this religion believes (granted, with hilarious pictures) in a humorus way.
if you don't believe in any of the aspects of what he's presented then you are probably not a follower of this religion.
take away original sin (adam and eve), or any of the other ridiculous things he talks about and you've got no christianity.

qruelsays...

chicar must of lost comprehension of the subject matter in the translation from his original langauge as he is making analogies that don't even make any sense (as cheesemoo pointed out)

bhyphenlowsays...

I don't find this video particularly amusing, nor do I find it one bit creative. I do, however, defend the right of jwray to express an opinion. As for the Bible as a poem, that's only partially correct. The books of the Bible fall into several genres, and as any student of literature would explain, comprehension is aided by an understanding of genre. It is true to say that ancient literature is better evaluated in the context of ancient culture. Understanding the ancient near east would also enhance understanding of ancient scriptures, including the Bible. If all you do is read the Bible and take it at a literal face value, the maybe jwray is correct. If on the other hand, you truly endeavor to study it, you might find more truth than you expect.

karaidlsays...

I do, however, defend the right of jwray to express an opinion.

You must be a new user. This isn't Jwray's video, he just embedded it. Don't be quick to judge the poster, it's not necessarily his opinion.

MINKsays...

qruel, your definition of "unravelling" and mine are different.
byphenlow, welcome and thanks, you are right, not all the bible is a "poem" but it's just so hard to discuss because some atheists immediately place the bible in their own frame of reference and then dissect it like it's a scientific formula... when in fact it isn't, and its strength does not depend on its historical accuracy.

I don't personally use the Bible as a guide for my life, because it was written for other people, in a galaxy far far away.

I also don't criticise the bible for factual inaccuracy because I don't think the bible actually claims to be an encyclopedia.

Like I said, the Beatles are not claiming to be The Walrus.

Well anyway, continue revelling in your intelligence, atheists, you're obviously very clever to have worked out that snakes didn't really have legs 4000 years ago.

twiddlessays...

Any defense of the Bible in regards to this post is misplaced. I see nothing in the video that criticizes the Bible. Rather the author was criticizing Christianity and those people that would take their beliefs in Christianity literally. Criticizing the author for taking the Bible literally seems a tad ironic don't you think?

bhyphenlowsays...

"You must be a new user. This isn't Jwray's video, he just embedded it. Don't be quick to judge the poster, it's not necessarily his opinion."

Whether jwray made the video or not, posting it expresses an opinion. I guess I should have said that I defend jwray's right to post

iniquitysays...

Holy crap people, this is just for laughs! I don't see why everyone has to take it so personally/seriously. It's funny, but only if you don't try to read too far into it. Laugh (or don't) and move on.

choggiesays...

CHEESEMOO-

the "wheel" and the "spokes" analogy with regards to the 5 major religions, all shaped society, and got us to where we are today, the good, the bad, the ugly of it.....you and all, are here today, because some of your retarded ancestors, beat a drum and fucked in the name of some god or many gods, or Bob Bartolomew Bogwiggle....Hawking had gods' help, crunching the numbers as well, the beat goes on....what was hard about that????
